How I make a game in half 48 hours
Hi, my name is Aurélien, and here is how I created this game, Jack and Jill, for a game jam. The jam lasted 48 hours, but the day the jam started, I was moving out. But I really wanted to do this jam, so I did it in just 24 hours. I discovered the theme : oppositions and duality.
Time was precious, so I was not going to make a 3D game. I decided to make a 2D plateformer game, but with a twist : their are two character in the scene, miroring each other move. To save as much time as possible, I reused some code from my previous game, tweaked the gravity a little bit, and implemented the twist. Then, it was level designed time ! I designed 3 levels, plus an extra one in the last hours where the two protagonists are finally together.
Then, its graphic and music. Graphics are very simple, and music is from Kevin MacLeod. Then, I did the title screen and the final screen. For the title screen, as I hadn't any artist in my team, I decided to use an AI, more specifically Dall e. The result is nice and fit well with the game, as long as you don't look to much on some details.
And with this, the 24 hours are gone. So here it is. This is the game I make for a jam, the story of Jack and Jill who want to meet each other, in under half the time limit.
